BP Solar is one of the world’s leading solar companies with manufacturing plants in China, India, and Frederick, Maryland. BP Solar is a part of BP Alternative Energy, launched in 2005 to combine all of BP’s interests in zero- and low-carbon power generation, including wind, solar, hydrogen power projects, and gas-fired power generation. BP actually stands for British Petroleum.

BP Solar came to the solar scene as the Solarex Corporation in 1973 when solar technology was first used in outer space to power satellites. BP Solar was the first to commercialize solar power for use on land.

Today, their mission is to bring photovoltaic (PV) solar systems into the mainstream of everyday living. In 2002, BP Solar exited the thin-film technology, focusing on their core markets- monocrystalline and multi-crystalline cells. In the past 5 years, they have doubled their silicon wafer production, supplying customers throughout North America and worldwide.

BP Solar’s monocrystalline and multi-crystalline panels are for residential, commercial, and industrial use. Their panels have a cell coating to improve efficiency, polarized weatherproofing, and a 25-year limited warranty. The frame strength of their panels exceeds the requirements of certifying agencies.
