It felt terrific to finish the installation. After having it on the roof and inspected, I was producing power within three days once they changed my meter out. It was really a rewarding experience.

Check out Michael Callen’s Grid-Tied project in Idaho!:

“I have been a contractor in Idaho performing remodels and maintenance on facilities from plumbing and roofing to whole interior redesigns. I have also added garages starting from footing to finishing work.

The most difficult part of the install was creating the permit package. I was lucky enough to be provided a template to design my package. It streamlined the permit install package that I provided to the City.

I was lucky enough to have one helper for two days as I ran wire and prepared the roof with the flashings and rails. On the day to set panels, I had three helpers that made it go quickly. Setting panels took one and a half hours from prep to finish. Only 10 panels.

One of the guys brought a 24″ flat bar designed to lift shingles. It was a huge help. I also purchased a hole bit that was ruined after stucco but made a real clean hole for all my boxes.

To complete the project, I worked on weekends and evenings. As a total, probably 6 or 7 days. This included repairing and repainting walls. Some of that time was used trying to find supplies due to such a high demand for sheetrock spray cans. I eventually purchased a remodeling spray gun that worked great.
